The Paloma is a small ether flyer that was purchased by Comercio Anglo-Español (Anglo-Spanish Trading) for use as a courier vessel. Villa Real is the other side of Mars from the main European centre of the British Colony of Syrtis Lapis and to travel overland between the two would be a major effort. The British have their interplanetary heliograph system for communications with Earth but none of the other human colonies have anything remotely similar. Many purchase the use of the heliograph system and Spain is no different. Communications are collected at the Spanish Consulate in Syrtis Major and once a week the Paloma travels up out of the Martian atmosphere and around the planet to land again at Syrtis Major. Communications, high value cargoes and passengers are exchanged and then the Paloma will load up and travel back again to Villa Real using the rotation of Mars to aid it.
